Osteoporosis Prevention and Management
This has been an area of interest to Lilyfield Physiotherapy for many years now.
Regular, challenging and varied exercise is a vital strategy for keeping bones and joints healthy. Exercise prescription for the prevention of osteoporosis should ideally begin in childhood so as to build strong bones. However, it is never too late to start.
Our FitBones classes, designed to help improve bone health and gait stability, have been in high demand since their introduction 15 years ago. The program uses safe yet challenging evidence-based exercises, aimed at strengthening your muscles, improving your balance and encouraging a longer and more robust spine.
Your Bone Densitometry (DEXA) reports are always of interest to us and we will work with your GP and/or specialist to ensure that your exercise plan is included in your overall management plan.
Walking in isolation is insufficient for optimal bone health. An individual assessment with Matt, our Exercise Physiologist, is invaluable in helping you evaluate whether your regular physical activity is enough to address your bone density concerns and will help you introduce a more osteogenic exercise regime.
