Bursitis
Ouch! Ouch! Ouch! That’s Bursitis
Bursitis is the painful inflammation of small, fluid filled sac that cushion the bones, tendons and muscles near your joints. Put simply, it’s ‘Ouch!’ with every movement and a dull ‘ouch’ through the night.
The most common areas for bursitis are the shoulder, elbow and hip, but you can also get bursitis in your elbow, knee and at the base of your big toe. Bursitis often feels achy or stiff. It may hurt to move or press on the area, and it may appear swollen.
What causes Bursitis?
Repetitive actions or positions that put pressure on the bursae around a joint are the most common causes of bursitis. For example, throwing or lifting something above your head repeatedly, or long walks if your hip muscles are weak. Extended periods of leaning on your elbows or kneeling can also cause bursitis.
