Back and neck pain can be particularly debilitating. Lilyfield Physiotherapy can help.
Acute back or neck pain
If you have acute back or neck pain our immediate priority is to relieve the severe pain with hands-on professional treatment. To help you get better faster, we will teach you how to move without aggravating your injury and how to train the muscles which protect your spine.
Headache
Structures in the upper part of the neck have the capacity to refer pain into the head thus producing a headache. Headaches arising from these musculoskeletal origins are termed cervicogenic headaches.
Analysis of the nature and characteristics of a headache will be followed by a thorough examination of the structures of the neck to help differentiate a cervicogenic headache from other types of headache such as migraine and tension headaches..
Treatment for cervicogenic headache includes manual therapy to reduce the stiffness of the joints, and specific exercise to maintain joint mobility and muscle function. Advice and help for postural correction is also an important part of treatment.
Postural Assessment and Retraining
Your posture and movement strategies may result in strain being placed on spinal structures resulting in pain and injury. Factors such as altered control of the deep muscles around the spine, and a loss of conditioning and strength of spinal and abdominal muscles or in some cases excessive activity of spinal and abdominal muscles are all known factors to be associated with spinal pain.
Learning how to use correct muscle activity to stabilize the spine allows you to direct bending movements to the hip and knee joints and protect the back and neck.
Incorrect sitting and poor posture can often result in back and neck pain.If this is causing your problems we have expertise in training people to sit and stand correctly the easy way.
Adolescent scoliosis
This is often the result of muscle imbalance which can be addressed with subtle changes to posture and specialised exercises. An accurate assessment is vital and postural changes can ensure that muscle patterns start changes immediately.
Back classes are an important and easy way to improve your back strength and find a sustainable solution to constant or episodic back pain.
